IS IT POSSIBLE TO FLY A DRONE IN PARIS?

Flying drones over Paris is subject to strict restrictions. Due to the density of the population and the proximity of sensitive infrastructures, it is generally forbidden to fly a drone in Paris intra-muros. Exemptions can be requested from the relevant authorities, but are rarely granted for recreational flights. Dronotec is able to comply with regulations and obtain the necessary authorizations for specific missions.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO OBTAIN DRONE OVERFLIGHT AUTHORIZATIONS?

The common time limit for obtaining authorization for overflights in populated areas is 5 working days. For overflights in Paris, the deadline is 10 working days. In urgent cases involving the safety of people and property, the authorities may grant exceptions to these time limits on a case-by-case basis. Dronotec handles all overflight authorizations for its customers.

WHAT ARE THE WEATHER CONDITIONS REQUIRED TO FLY A DRONE?

Flights are generally suspended in the event of rain, strong winds (in excess of 50 km/h), snow or dense fog. Dronotec systematically checks the weather conditions before each mission to guarantee the safety of operations and the quality of the data captured.

WHAT SAFETY MEASURES SHOULD BE TAKEN DURING A DRONE INTERVENTION?

During an intervention, we set up a safety perimeter and exclude third parties from the overflight zone. We use state-of-the-art equipment with redundancy to reduce the risk of equipment failure, and our operators are trained to handle emergency situations. We also comply with local and international aviation safety standards, and carry all the necessary PPE.

AM I ALLOWED TO FLY A DRONE?

In France, the use of drones by private individuals and professionals is governed by aviation regulations and the DGAC (Direction Générale de l'Aviation Civile). For recreational flying, certain areas are prohibited or restricted. For professional use, training and certification are required, as are specific authorizations for certain zones.

HOW HIGH CAN A DRONE FLY?

Regulations in France impose a flight limit of 120 meters for drones outside of restricted areas. This limit maintains a safety distance from manned aircraft. Dronotec adheres to this height for all its operations, unless specific authorizations allow for higher altitudes.

IS TRAINING REQUIRED TO FLY A DRONE?

For leisure flights, an online training course offered by the DGAC is all that's required. On the other hand, for professional activities, certification (remote pilot theoretical certificate and practical training) is mandatory. Dronotec only works with qualified and certified operators, in line with legal requirements.

CAN A DRONE FLY AT NIGHT?

In France, night drone flights are subject to strict rules and require special permits. These flights are reserved for professionals and specific situations. Dronotec has the necessary experience and certifications to carry out night flights safely when required.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PHOTOGRAMMETRY AND LASERGRAMMETRY?

Photogrammetry uses images to create 3D models by analyzing the position of points in the photos. Lasergrammetry, or LIDAR, uses laser beams to measure distances and generate a precise 3D point cloud. Lasergrammetry is often more accurate and suitable for surveys in complex environments.

WHY USE A DRONE EQUIPPED WITH A LIDAR?

A drone equipped with a LIDAR allows for the capture of precise data even in difficult conditions, such as under dense vegetation or in urban environments. This technology is ideal for topographic surveys and projects requiring high precision, such as BIM models.
